Animal Care Technician

Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute is seeking a part-time Animal Care Technician who will be responsible for performing a variety of animal health care procedures to assist the Veterinarian in the laboratory. This is a Friday through Sunday position (19–20 hours).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for daily care of research animals for experimental purposes, including cleaning cages and racks.
• Coordinate with vendors and supervisors on operational, administrative and technical responsibilities.
• Responsible for overseeing procurement of animals and supplies, preventative maintenance of facility equipment, daily rounds and observation to check animal health status.
• Develop standard operating procedures and maintain records to comply with regulatory requirements.
• Work on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations.
• May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Animal handler training class or ALAS certificate through the technician level preferred.
• Proficiency in Word and Excel.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
